Introducing the Castaway Forums

This announcement subforum is analogous to the Announcements tab in the steam group. Whenever I make an announcement I will be posting it in both places.
Welcome to the Castaway forums! I have always wanted to run a forum with a small userbase and here's my chance to finally do so. The forums were something I've wanted to make since the beginning of the community but never found the time or the need. At long last we can finally use them!
The forum itself runs on the phpbb forum software, with the Allan Style SUBSILVER theme applied. I made some backend tweaks so that account creation is directly tied to logging in via steam which I think makes everything go smoothly. The steam login plugin is entirely custom
Work on the forum was completed in some time around October of 2025 but I wanted to have something worth coming to the forums for, and that is the Mapping subforum, specifically the introduction to mapping tutorial. It took me months to write but only because I took lots of breaks of doing nothing at all, it was realistically only about a week or two of work spread out over 4 months.
This forum is meant to solve gripes with steam discussions, such as them generally being terrible. This software on the otherhand is much easier to use, organize, and gives us more features like image embedding. I will not be deleting the steam discussions, but instead trying to mirror the more important threads here. A few have already been made and more will be as need arises.
I hope that these forums can give us more community engagement and discussion outside of the group chat while also giving you a healthy dose of nostalgia for old forums, which I miss and have sadly been replaced by people moving to discord.
There's a suggestion thread in the meta forum which you can use to discuss the forum itself or provide any suggestions. If there's megathreads you want moved from steam discussions, request them there and I will create them.
