Tips/Strats for Using Reverted Weapons

#1 Post by Fps »

I would like to share a couple of strats that I've come to enjoy when using the reverted weapons. I hope you peeps will throw your hat in the ring and share your tips as well!

The "Quad Jump" Scout is an excellent loadout that I've used occasionally since the reverts went live. You equip the Force-A-Nature and the Atomizer. I hope you can put the puzzle pieces together...
I find that when my positioning is on-point, I can FAN jump and keep moving around Soldiers and Demomen to avoid splash damage in nearly every scenario. Even though I lose a shot for the initial jump, I'd say that's a good price to pay to style on peeps.
The rest of the manoeuvrability potential goes without saying, but I'd like to remind you about it anyway. Try out jumping to new places that you'd never think to before. Maybe this will fill the hole for you Scouts wanting the jump-HYPE version of the Soda-Popper.

The Soda Popper Pistol Scout is also pretty great (it needs a better name though [maybe suggest one!]). You run around, build up your HYPE, and 99% it. That is, you swap to your Pistol or Bat just before your HYPE meter activates so you can use the mini-crits when you want!
Extending the versatility of the Pistol is so good. I don't know which I like more; the better range or the capacity to dump a mini-crit magazine into some poor soul's back.

I like using the Dalokohs Bar with the Fists of Steel active to become a tank. Good for pushing the payload cart through sightlines and chokes.

One of my favorite Scout loadouts is the Soda Popper + Crit-a-Cola. It is the perpetual minicrits scout. When your hype is down, drink the cola. When the cola wears off, the hype comes up. You rarely ever are in a situation without minicrits, and popping people down instantly is great.

There's a few demoknight shield/sword combos but my favorites are:
  • Tide Turner + Persian Persuader: The increased charge recharge rate of the persian and the full charge recharge on kill of the Tide Turner makes you a charging machine. You can charge repeatedly and it's great for combos. Getting health back on metal is really helpful. Additionally since taking damage halts your tide turner charge, getting it back faster just works perfectly.
  • Tide Turner + Zatoichi: This is similar to the persian combo in that it allows you to do big chain combos, but it's a lot more punishing if you miss a charge as you can only heal on kill and don't get your charge back faster. More survivable in the heat of battle however as you'll be healing to full whereas the persian only lets you heal part of your health.
  • Tide Turner + Skullcutter: Guaranteed chained crits with the ability to chain your high damage hits make this a really high damage glass cannon combo. But since you move slower and can't heal like with the persian or zatoichi you are a lot squishier and can die very easily.
  • Charge 'n Targe + Zatoichi: This is the ultimate survivability combo. The resistances of the targe + the zatoichi make you a tank if you can actually get some kills
  • Splendid Screen + Claidheamh Mor: The reverted splendid screen deals 85 damage on a shield bash, so getting a higher range charge with it lets you guarantee some bash damage, and coupled with a crit swing you can take out everyone except a heavy
  • Splendid Screen + Skullcutter: Maximum damage. A crit swing deals 235 + 85 bash allows you to instantly kill a full health heavy if you land it.
  • Splendid Screen + Zatoichi: Zatoichi combos with every shield well. This is probably the worst combo, but the shield bash damage means you're more likely to actually get the kill and heal back so it can be more reliable than the targe for healing, but it has a lot less resistance.
Not a big fan of the eyelander, and never have been. It's a lot of work for not much benefit, I have found the Persian to be a lot more reliable. The eyelander just feels like a playstyle where you are hiding just to make sure you don't lose your heads which is lame and boring

Lastly as the most prolific Pomson user on Castaway (I think), there are a few tips I can give. First off, when you are at medium range, the Pomson two-shots light classes (scouts, spies, snipers). Being able to two shot spies is even more helpful than the cloak drain, if you can aim well you can easily dispatch any spy attacking your buildings. Just note that the pomson doesn't go through buildings so you'll need to shoot around your sentry if a spy is playing ring around the rosie with you. Otherwise, I like to generally try and always be firing my pomson, spamming chokes where my sentries are, or likely areas spies might be camping. You can catch some cheeky kills this way and occasionally snipe medics to reduce their uber. I would highly recommend bringing the Pistol along if you use the pomson, because you only have four shots and if you are caught with your pants down either having nothing loaded, or missing your shots, the pistol is a good cleanup tool that can save your life.
Oh, they never lie. They dissemble, evade, prevaricate, confound, confuse, distract, obscure, subtly misrepresent and willfully misunderstand with what often appears to be a positively gleeful relish and are generally perfectly capable of contriving to give one an utterly unambiguous impression of their future course of action while in fact intending to do exactly the opposite, but they never lie. Perish the thought.

The revert does penetrate friendly buildings

Doesn't feel like it, does it work if your sentry is sapped? I wonder if it collides with the sapper. That's the only time I ever really fire through my buildings. I might be confusing it with RD robots as the pomson definitely doesn't go through friendly ones

fat scout is genuinely viable when paired with the fists of steel, see without the switch speed penalty you can use it as a shield move and freely cross any sightline you want, use its easily my top 3 favorite loadouts on castaway
swap to fists everytime you think your about to take damage, with soldiers and demos you can just 1 shot, fists, 1 shot, fists, 1 shot, fists
and who gives a fuck if you just got headshot twice? you got 750 effective health, just keep going about your day like nothing happened
