Suggestion - Events

I think it'd be a great idea to set aside one day a month (or however frequent is convenient) for a fun event, with special settings or rules or maps in place. If randoms on board with something like this, use this thread to brainstorm and discuss event ideas.

An event idea i had would be a 2008 or 2009 TF2 day.

An item whitelist restricts hats and weapons to what was available during whichever time we want to mimic, reverts are also configured to their 2009 versions, a mapcycle with maps that were in the game (including community maps) at that time would be used too. As a bonus itd be fun to have everyone stay in character, and talk like we're in 2009, including bullying or kicking people if they talk about stuff or micspam music that wouldnt be appropriate for a 2009 setting.

This is something thats only possible on castaway with the plugin we have, and it'd be fun to see people use old ass profile pics names or ancient 2009 memes on their sprays, people participating can have fun and get creative with this too.

I think it'd make for some good fun, it was the first thing that came to mind when i thought about events that castaway could do. A few other ideas I've thought of are special map pools, e.g. playing the invasion maps (including community submissions for the invasion update), or playing custom game modes like dodgeball or smash bros. These could last for a few hours or a whole day, and they could take place on a weekend day to not distrupt the regular vanilla sessions.

There's benefits to running one off events like this, it'd be fun to do something different with the castaway regulars, it could generate a lotta engagement, it could attract new players who are interested in variety, and itd give the community something to anticipate.

If people are interested, this would preferably be unintrusive and only happen once a month or so, to not interrupt the vanilla** gameplay the server's known for. I'm curious what people think, this thread hasnt gotten much engagement.
