for me, its pre2017.vpk, an edit of nohatsmod by huutti to include all hats up until 2017.

the regular nohatsmod is here

Genuline's guide? I tried to make a custom nohats build but I wasn't really happy with it. I only ended up hiding all the post-maintenance Smissmass/Scream Fortress cases (minus a couple hats/miscs I actually like) and compie badges before I realized just how many hats there really are in TF2. Has Genuline gone through the effort of making a list of every art style-breaking hat in the game or something?mirajaded wrote: Sat Feb 07, 2026 3:52 pm ...someday i'll stop being lazy and use genuline's guide to make a custom nohats build with everything i want. there's some good hats and bad hats from mostly every update...

There's also the problem of deciding what's truly delete worthy. Something like the COVID mask is an obvious one, but what about something like the Respectless Rubber Glove or the Stainless Pot? There are a lot of items that are total classics that I don't think anybody has a real problem with, but that also don't really fit the art style or original tone of the game.

Thanks mate, this'll be useful. At some point what I think I'm gonna do is go through the list of every cosmetic in the game and set aside which ones fit and which ones don't (i.e., bad promo items, Smissmass/Halloween slop, downright bad and ill-fitting hats, compie badges, etc.) It'll be a lot of work so I'd be happy to share it around if anyone else would be interested in a more carefully curated list.Genuline wrote: Mon Feb 09, 2026 12:50 am here's my config.txt if you're curious, its not every art style-breaking hat but rather all the cosmetics from before gun mettle with ones I personally dislike removed IE big equip regions. I think its easier to keep all the ones you do like using the date: command (which I didn't go over in the vid woops) instead of writing down each and every one you HATE >:( I tried to attach my config.txt as a file but couldn't figure it out, haven't used a traditional forum since 2018
This is what I did, you can see in my post I have a link to my config.txt. But I went with a blacklist approach rather than a whitelist one, as this leaves in things like medals which I don't mind. I think this is the best way to do it, just go through the list of all hats yourself and edit it to be whatever your taste is. I have a handful of artstyle breaking hats in my config that I keep just because I consider them classicsBuchou wrote: Mon Feb 09, 2026 1:06 amThanks mate, this'll be useful. I loved using the Jogger's Jersey for Scout because Scout doesn't have an official baseball jersey [somehow] and now I come to find out that the mod is completely scrubbed from the workshop and mods.tf has apparently been defunct for over a year now. [Guy who owns it says he can just put the archive of all the files out there but doesn't want to for 'ethical reasons.' ???] Been spending the last couple hours trying to figure out how to import a Gmod hex into TF2 and how to make it replace the misc I want, but I'm no modder so I'm just running in circles.

Thought it was worth a shot at least, ha.Nota wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 10:04 am
Good to know I wasn’t the only one getting fucked over by the developer of mods.tf being a lazy prick and letting his site break and die

featured above
https://gamebanana.com/mods/204819
an alternative Rocket Jumper that keeps it's newer model, but removes the retarded plunger that clips with soldier's hand
https://gamebanana.com/mods/198778
Towering Pillar of Class hats, works on all classes and for Noble Amassment of Hats too, they look great on all classes apart from spy because it has the camera beard on his head and it looks stupid, not in a good way either, just use the Noble Amassment for spy, looks way better

I wont list every mod, but here's the most notable ones I use. I don't use any wacky mods, I just like to make the game look a little better when possible. Vanilla+ basically.
SFM Playermodels - https://gamebanana.com/mods/198801
(If you keep your cosmetic loadouts on the conservative end, it's a no-brainer upgrade in quality with minimal issues. And I always liked the more detailed hands)
ReValved Mercs - https://gamebanana.com/mods/604479
(Upgrades the texture quality on the Mercs while keeping it faithful to the original look and feel. Doesn't have that artificial super clean appearance that TIP does)
2007 Weapons - https://gamebanana.com/mods/475115 (+NoSkins Mod)
(I think 90% of Warpaints / Skins look like shit, so I just get rid of them and have the old viewmodels back)
Old Sticky Jumper / Rocket Jumper - https://gamebanana.com/mods/464509
2013 Hud - https://gamebanana.com/mods/616449
Consistent Viewmodels - https://gamebanana.com/mods/425647
(Yes I'm aware that it's made by a troon. But I can never go back to the ugly, mismatched vanilla Viewmodel arms.)
Misc/Official HQ Stuff - https://gamebanana.com/mods/411191
(Higher quality textures / materials gathered from SFM, old mod pages, leaks, etc. There's a ton of stuff to see.)
Retail Giblet Overhaul - https://gamebanana.com/mods/205664
(Like the viewmodels, it makes the gibs actually match the Mercs' final appearance and not beta assets)

How much do all these affect performance, out of curiosity?
Absolutely love those:

Performance wise? If your PC can run un-modded TF2 at high settings with solid FPS already, then little to none. My PC is a slightly above-average build circa 2020 (3070ti + Ryzen 3700x), and it chews through TF2 maxxed out at 1440p with the mods installed no sweat. So unless you're playing on some 10 year old potato laptop it's free eye-candy.
